Night, Day, Dawn, it's a "Living Dead" Thing - Review

This seems to be the decade of "Night of the Living Dead" re-makes.
Page down & you'll see what I mean... If I'm missing any of them, please let me know;
'cause after making this list, I wouldn't doubt it.

So... Here's my question:
Has Hollywood been zombified again?
Even if it's not the main storyline, there seems to be somebody in that thriller that's
"not exactly alive". We've seen the undead/unalive thing from every direction.
There's the apocalyptic "I am Legend" (2007), to the zombie-comedy (It's really a genre,
I didn't make that up!) "Zombie Strippers" (2008), but we're still talkin' about...
zombification... Right?

The first one, "White Zombie", was made in 1932. Amazingly enough, there's a new,
black & white silent called "Prometheus Triumphant: A Fugue in the Key of Flesh" (2009).
Classic zombies were pretty simple: Zombie-dude slowly chases after screaming girl who
always falls down (can anyone NOT out run the zombie-dude?).

Then came "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) and major changes started happening in story
structures. The sub-plots in 'Living Dead' challenged just about every rule that society had,
in those days (and... there were sub-plots). Zombie films got a lot more complicated after that.

Since then, we've seen every possible version of half dead, semi dead, electrically motivated
dead, and injected with life essence by a 6" syringe dead.
There's dead, but controlled by: an alien, a virus, an evil spirit, or a crazy relative from the
1500's who's really pissed, but has a good reason.

So, I have to ask that basic chicken/egg question: Are film-makers making the undead flicks
because we, the audience, love zombies? Or are they just feeding us leftovers from the back lot,
because we are the zombies?
